The 5th Annual 2010 ‘NZ Rock Paper Scissors Championships’ (NZRPSC) Regional Qualifying Rounds begin in March with the NZ Qualifying Round & NZ National Final taking place on Saturday 1st of May 2010 at the ‘World’s End Bar & Restaurant’, Tauranga.

Along with the wealth of fame & admiration from RPS peers that comes from taking the prestigious title, some great prizes are up for grabs as well including trips to the NZ National Final, Australian Open & the major prize of an overseas Trip for one to Toronto, Canada for the Champion to attend and compete in the 9th annual 2010 World RPS Championships & vie for the title & the CAN$10,000.00 prize pool.

NZRPSC competition entry is free & registration will be accepted on the day/night of competition.  Players are encouraged to enter a team, themed if desired, or just fly solo. 

The 2009 RPS World Champs attracted approximately one thousand competitors & spectators. Tim Conrad from Michigan, USA took out the 2009 World Rock Paper Scissors Championships title.

An internationally renowned sport, the history of Rock Paper Scissors (RPS) is extremely rich.  RPS is also know as; Jenken or Jan Ken Pon (Japan), Roshambo (Southwestern U.S.), Shnik Shnak Shnuk (Germany), Ching Chong Chow (South Africa), Farggling (U.S.) & Scissors Paper Stone (United Kingdom).

RPS is a decision making game of wits, speed, dexterity and strategy between players who are unable to reach a decision using other means. The result of a match is considered a binding agreement between the players. In the case of professional or tournament play the decision is replaced by honour points toward a championship title.  

NZRPSC competition rules are governed, maintained and approved by the World RPS Society (WRPSS) under the guidance and authority of the World RPS Steering Committee.

TAURANGA: 'World's End Bar & Restaurant'.  Ph: (07) 579 4185.  Heat 1: Fri 5-3-10.  Heat 2: Fri 12-3-10.  Heat 3 & Final: Fri 19-3-10.

CHRISTCHURCH: 'Iconic Bar'.  Ph (03) 366 1391.  Heat 1: Thur 18-3-10.  Heat 2: Thur 25-3-10.  Heat 3: Thur 01-4-10.  Final: Thur 08-4-10.

NZ Qualifying Round & NZ Grand Final: 'World's End Bar & Restaurant', Tauranga. Ph: (07) 579 4185.  Sat 01-5-10.  NZ Qualifying Round: Player (18 years+) registration onsite at venue from 6.00pm onwards - play begins at 7.00pm. Competition and venue entry is free.  Limited entries available.  First in best dressed.  Top placegetters from qualifying round join regional champions in the Main Event / NZ National Grand Final (10.30pm approx) to decide the NZ champion for 2010.

2009 NZ RPS Champ is KATHRYN HITCHINGS aka "Kat Power"!

'Kat Power' (pic left) Player Profile;

Age: 27. 

Home town: Christchurch.

Occupation: Hospitality.

Preferred playing hand: Right.

RPS Style: Random.

Second place went to Britney 'Rock Lobster' Morison (pic right), Dunedin.  'Kat Power' went onto compete in the Australian Open RPS Champs main event on the Gold Coast where she placed third to overall winner Michael Stewart aka ‘Senior Mick’ (AUST).  Mick went onto compete in the World Champs in Toronto, Canada but knocked out in early rounds.
